1707: Hetman Ivan Mazepa of Ukraine and Charles XII of Sweden start secret talks on joint action against Peter I of Russia.

1768: The Ukrainian Cossack and peasant rebellion against Poland, known as Koliyivshchyna, begins in Right-Bank Ukraine, to be ruthlessly suppressed with the Russian empire’s aid, leaving behind numerous victims among the civilian populace.

1771: A ukase allows thousands of Ukrainian Cossacks to settle in the vicinity of Azov.

1919: The Ukrainian Galician Army launches the Chortkiv offensive in the of the 1918-19 Ukrainian-Polish War.

1990: The first assembly of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church begins in Kyiv.

2000: US President Bill Clinton lands at Boryspil Airport on his second visit to Ukraine (after the first one in May 1995).
