1912: Plast, as Ukraine’s boy- and girl-scout organization, is established in Lviv.
1922: Soviet Ukraine’s Executive Committee grants an amnesty for all who fought against Soviet power in Ukraine, except for Pyotr Wrangel, Aleksandr Kutepov, Nestor Makhno, Symon Petliura, Pavlo Skoropadsky, Boris Savinkov, and Yurii Tiutiunnyk.
1961: Soviet spacecraft Vostok, piloted by Yuri Gagarin, completes an orbit of the Earth. This date, originally marked as Soviet Cosmonautics Day, is currently celebrated as the International Day of Human Space Flight.
1979: The Soviet [Council] of Ministers of the USSR decrees the opening of the Industrial Institute of Kherson.
2010: Washington hosts an international nuclear safety summit involving 47 heads of state. President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine promises that his country will be absolutely nuclear-free by the year 2012.
