1921: An emergency session of the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee adopts a decree replacing the prodrazverstka food apportionment or surplus appropriation system with the production tax (tax in kind).

1943: The Radnarkom of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a decree attaching the Taras Shevchenko State Museum to the Ukrainian Language and Literature Institute under the aegis of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

1944: The Radnarkom and the Central Committees of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine adopt a decree instituting St. Sophia’s National Culture Preserve.

1958: Nikita Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, is appointed as Chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers of the USSR.

1968: Yuri Gagarin, the world’s first astronaut, dies while on a routine training flight.

1973: The first 1,200,000 kW unit of Zaporizhia’s State Regional Power Station starts generating.

1993: Kyiv hosts the first annual Pektoral drama art award ceremony.

1994: Independent Ukraine witnesses the first parliamentary campaign on a new legal and organizational basis.
