1652: Cossack envoys, led by Colonel Ivan Iskra, start traveling from Chyhyryn to Moscow to make an alliance with Muscovy.

1906: Shershen, Ukraine’s first illustrated socialist weekly eight-page magazine of humor and satire, starts being published in Kyiv.

1919: Red Army troops enter Poltava and restore Soviet rule. 1924: The Seventh All-Ukrainian Congress of Soviets adopts the Constitution of the USSR.

1968: The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopts the procedures of naming city streets, squares, and other populated areas after distinguished [Soviet] political and public figures.

1992: URP and Rukh initiate the oath-taking ceremony for the Ukrainian officers in reserve.

2005: The Supreme Court of Ukraine rejects Viktor Yanukovych’s defense appeal against the publication of the presidential election’s official results.
