1921: The All-Russia Central Executive Committee adopts a decree on the confiscation of valuables stored at the churches, monasteries, and convents.

1921: The Institute of Ukrainian Scientific Language is formed within the framework of the All-Ukraine Academy of Sciences (reorganized in 1930 as the Institute of Language Studies).

1932: The Central Executive Committee and the Sovnarkom (Council of People’s Commissars) of the USSR institute internal passports and compulsory propiska residence permits.

1934: The Politburo of the Central Committee of the All-Russia Communist Party (Bolsheviks) resolves to deport 2,000 “anti-Soviet” families from Ukraine’s borderlands.

1938: The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopts a decree instituting the most prestigious [civil] title “Hero of Socialist Labor.”

1996: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passes the bill “On the Privatization of Property of State Enterprises.”
