1621: The Polish-Lithuanian Kingdom and the Ottoman Empire sign the Treaty of Khotyn, with the contracting parties undertaking to restrain the Cossacks from raiding Turkish and Polish possessions.

1928: A Greek Catholic Theological Academy is founded in Lviv.

1942: The Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopts a decree establishing the Red Army’s uniform chain of command, abolishing military commissars.

1943: Soviet forces liberate the Taman Peninsula, thus completing the Battle of the Caucasus during WW II.

1944: The NKVD issues a directive ordering harsher measures to enhance the struggle against the OUN underground forces and to eliminate the “OUN armed gangs” in the west of Ukraine.

1975: Andrei Sakharov is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

1991: The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine registers the Union of Youth Organizations of Ukraine (SMOU).
