1920: Kharkiv hosts the first convention of Komnezam (Committees of Poor Peasants) of Ukraine.

1921: Soviet Russia’s Sovnarkom adopts a decree establishing the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic as part of the RSFSR.

1941: The Putivl Partisan Detachment is formed in Spadshchansky Forest (Sumy oblast) under the command of Sydir Kovpak and Semen Rudnev.

1945: The Soviet probe Venera 4 lands on Venus, sending data re the planet’s atmosphere.

1991: The Soviet Union enacts the Law “On the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Political Repressions” that nullifies all court rulings and tribunal sentences on political charges since October 1917.

1995: Ukraine becomes a member of the Council of Europe.

1995: The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Poland sign a bilateral economic cooperation and trade treaty in Kyiv.

1996: The Constitutional Court of Ukraine is established.
