1906: St. Petersburg Police Department issues a directive on harsher repressive measures against the trade unions.

1926: Date of birth of Yevhen Hrytsiak, OUN underground resistance activist, member of the Norilsk rebellion, faith healer, yogin.

1928: The world’s first Circus and Variety Art Museum opens in Leningrad.

1942: Shostakovich’s Symphony No.7 is performed in blockaded Leningrad.

1943: The Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of Ukraine, Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, and Radnarkom of the Ukrainian SSR address a message to the Ukrainian people, calling for a more active struggle against the “German fascist occupiers.”

1945: The Manchurian strategic offensive operation begins, with Soviet troops and those of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Army defeating the Guandong Army, liberating Manchuria and North Korea.

1959: The ore dressing and processing combine in Novy Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk oblast) yields first products.
