23 December, 2008 - 00:00

On Dec. 24, 2008, the Ukrinform Information Agency will hold an awards ceremony for the winners of the annual competition for the best presentation of Ukrainian books in the paper and electronic mass media. There are three laureates: the Best TV Program on Books or Series Award went to the 1st National Channel for its program “Knyha.UA” and the Best Radio Program Award, to the National Radio Company of Ukraine for its “Book Fair,” while Den‘ column “Ukrainians, Read!” won the Best Newspaper (Magazine) Publication on Books or Series Award.

Valentyna Babyliulko, head of the Department for Publishing and Press at the State Committee of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, which organized the competition, says: “This was the committee’s idea to nominate Den‘ for the competition. We like the way you choose books for your column and single out historical research. As a result, your newspaper won unanimous ayes from the jury.

“Moreover, your newspaper can be deservedly called a reliable partner of the Ukrainian publishing business. The founding of and annual additions to your library series are an excellent example, to say the least. Our wish is that it is followed in a worthy manner.

“Our committee will continue to gladly include your books in the lists of publications that are displayed on Ukraine’s stands at international fairs. Incidentally, Andrii Nesterenko’s photo “Ukrainians, Read!” was part of Den‘s annual photo exhibit this year that we displayed at the Moscow Fair. Ukraine was an honorary guest there and his photo became a kind of an emblem for our delegation.”

Diana Klochko, chief editor of the Kyiv-based Hrani-T Publishing House, says: “Coverage of our newly published books in your newspaper is always a pleasant event. This means that wise things have been written about us and we have received support. Strangely, very few reviewes are carried by periodicals today. That is why we always publish Den‘s reviews of our production on our website.”

As a token of gratitude, the State Committee of Television and Radio Broadcasting will award diplomas to the Cherkasy-produced TV program on Volodymyr Vynnychenko “This is what life is” and the Chernivtsi-based weekly Va-Bank for its coverage of the situation in the book publishing sector in the Chernivtsi region.
