Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

Do not miss it!

All charitable-minded Ukrainians are invited to performance of Warsaw Melody-2 play, which will be held at the House of Officers in Kyiv on August 12

WARSAW MELODY-2 PREMIERED 11 YEARS AGO, BUT HELENA’S FINAL MONOLOG, PERFORMED BY ADA ROHOVTSEVA, STILL BRINGS TEARS TO THE AUDIENCE’S EYES...

All funds raised at this creative charitable event will go to support people injured in the anti-terrorist operation area (admission is free)! The play will feature popular actors Ada Rohovtseva, Akhtem Seitablayev, Anatolii Yashchenko, Kateryna Stepankova, and Volodymyr Zadniprovsky.

Let us recall that Warsaw Melody-2 was first staged in 2003, directed by Ihor Afanasiev. It is based on Leonid Zorin’s well-known play Warsaw Melody, once super popular in the former Soviet Union. Kyiv’s Russian Drama Theater hosted its premiere showing in the city in 1968 (it was one of the best performances ever directed by Eduard Mitnytsky!). Rohovtseva’s star rose high with that performance. Her partner in it was late Alfred Shestopalov, an excellent actor who was cast as Viktor. That part was played by Anatolii Reshetnykov and Herman Tsariov in revivals of the play...

Many years later, director Afanasiev has not just revived the theatrical hit, but found an approach allowing him to return to Melody’s characters and adaptthe play to suit the modern audience’s perceptions. The part of protagonist Helena is played by two actresses: Rohovtseva’s daughter Stepankova as young Helena, and Rohovtseva herself as Helena 40 years later. The action of the play takes place in two periods as well. It is a story of love destroyed by a totalitarian regime, while the action of Melody-2 takes place many years later, during the perestroika period of the Soviet Union’s history...

By the way, this production has toured not only Ukraine, but also the US, Canada, and Russia, and the show has always been sold out!
