The PinchukArtCenter has announced the establishment of the first nationwide, privately-funded prizes for contemporary art. The gallery’s goal is to support young artists. The best Ukrainian artists under 35 will be awarded prizes every two years, starting in 2009.
Artists working in different genres of contemporary art are eligible to take part in the competition. Works must be submitted to the project’s Web site. The main prize is worth 100,000 hryvnias and includes a grant for internship in the studios of the world’s top artists. Two special prizes are worth 25,000 hryvnias each and include an internship grant. The Public Prize is worth 10,000 hryvnias. The winner of the latter will be chosen by votes cast by visitors of the PinchukArtCenter.
