New technologies are increasingly inescapable in our lives. The mankind is striving to make its living environment ever more comfortable. Today’s globalized technology allows one to do almost everything with all costs incurred upfront. However, what are the omnipresent digital environment’s effects on humans?
The TEDxDonetsk conference’s organizers believe that it is the urban space that is determining behavior styles, everyday life and occupations of modern humans. The modern urbanites enjoy all the comforts of civilization, but combine them with environmental consciousness, as they prefer wind farms and solar panels, cycle and engage in civic activism.
The conference’s experts will discuss these theses. In particular, Steve Lewis from London, who served in executive positions at IBM and Microsoft before founding Living PLANIT Valley and is now building an “e-city” in Portugal, will cover that city’s single operating system. Kostiantyn Leonenko will tell the audience whether a car can be printed with a 3D-printer and whether IZOLAB platform will be able to bring together the best engineers, artists and designers of Donetsk. IBM’s local office’s head Oleksandr Rusanov will share his thoughts on what makes the smart city and whether Donetsk can get on par with the leaders in application of innovative technologies. Director of the Urban Development Institute and Vinnytsia mayor’s adviser on sustainable urban development Myroslav Kosheliuk will tell how to create a West European-modeled municipal service, using the example of Vinnytsia city hall’s transparent office. Lviv traveler and businessman Orest Zub will share his tips on remote working, travelling and making life an enjoyable experience, while Kyivite Dmytro Muzhuk, founder of the Smart Cafe Bibliotech co-working, will give a talk on this new type of cafes.
The TEDx conferences, where x stands for an independent event in the TED framework and TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, depart from the ordinary conferences’ standards. The TEDx synthesizes popular scientific and practical knowledge and is governed by tough regulations, allowing the presenters just 18 minutes to share their ideas with the audience. Such conferences have been held in Ukraine since 2009. Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Uzhhorod, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Lviv are some of the cities that have supported the TEDx movement.
TEDxDonetsk Homo Urbanus will take place at the Victoria hotel complex in Donetsk from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 13. Further information is available at www.tedxdonetsk.com site.
The Day will cover the most interesting ideas that will be voiced at the conference.
