Entrance in a well

A museum-bunker of Nil Khasevych is going to be created in Rivne

There are plans to establish a museum-bunker of the famous artist in Rivne region. According to Mykola Fedoryshyn, author of the idea, no similar locations have been built in western Ukraine yet. The entrance to the museum will be hidden in the well; the exit will also be clandestine.

It will be arrange near the village of Sukhivtsi in Rivne raion. Nearby was the secret place on the farm, where Nil Khasevych lived. It also became the place of his death. In the end, when the bunker was surrounded, the rebel artist and his two guards refused to be captured alive by KGB agents.

“It is impossible to find the exact place where the bunker was located. We want to establish the museum-bunker to Khasevych near the monument dedicated to him in Sukhivtsi. It will have two rooms – one will display the exposition dedicated to the rebel artist, and another will contain information about UPA,” says Fedoryshyn, who is the director of Peresopnytsia cultural and archaeological center. “We want to build an entrance inside a well that stands in this place. It has not been used for water for a long time, and it is possible to use it for such a construction. In general, some UPA bunkers had their hidden entrances in wells. Although we know that the bunker on a farm near Sukhivtsi, where Khasevych lived, was different, we have no intention to reconstruct it precisely. The Peresopnytsia cultural and archaeological center has been running the Nil Khasevych foundation for two years, which is collecting artifacts, original photos, and items related to the artist. By the way, the son of the owners of that farm, where the rebel artist lived, donated the pictures and books of his parents. They will be put on display in the newly established museum.”
