Forbes to come out in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Integrated Media Holding has obtained a license for publishing Forbes magazine in Ukraine. This American finance and economics magazine has been published since 1917, and is one of the most prestigious and renowned periodicals in the world.

The first issue of the Ukrainian Forbes will appear on the market in the first quarter of 2011. The representatives of the Integrated Media Holding maintain that the appearance of the influential business journal in Ukraine is yet another step directed at incorporating the young Ukrainian economy into the global economic system, as well as representing the best standards of international journalism.

Consequently, they see it as the Holding’s responsibility to make Forbes the most successful business magazine on the Ukrainian market, with the best ratings in terms of readers’ confidence and advertising profits.

The printed magazine is coupled with an equally reputed website: forbes.com. Both are part of the global holding Forbes Media. Forbes.com has an audience of over 18 million people. The audience of the printed editions of Forbes and Forbes Asia exceeds six million people. Forbes is licensed for publishing in China, Croatia, India, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, and Turkey.

Tony Blair’s A Journey

A book by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who resigned from office three years ago, has recently seen the light. The book is called “A Journey,” and describes how the Labour Party came to power in May 1997 after a long absence, and about his premiership. Blair claimed that he was motivated to write the book by his desire to answer the British people’s questions about events connected to the Iraq war. At the same time, he does not challenge any of his deeds, and does not even consider the possibility that he or his government manipulated the public opinion to support the war in Iraq. Regarding Iraq, Blair claimed that it was “a mistake, but one in good faith.” Nevertheless, the ex-prime minister regrets the losses suffered by his country in the war, but not the decision to take part in it. Blair considers that Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship would have been a greater threat for the entire world than present-day Iraq. Blair previously promised to donate the profits from the book to the Royal British Legion, a charity organization that takes care of injured veterans.

Kyivmiskbud shares are sold back

Kyiv’s General Public Utilities Directorate signed a contract on July 29, 2009, with the New Region Financial Company on selling 80 percent of the Kyivmiskbud Holding Company’s shares, says a lawsuit filed by the Prosecutor-General’s Office to the Kyiv Economic Court. The recently-publicized text says that the Prosecutor-General’s Office requests the court to pronounce the contract null and void, and oblige New Region and the Terminal Register and Adrem companies, registers of Kyivmiskbud, to return the shares. The court accepted the suit filed on August 20, begun to look into the case, scheduled the hearing for September 16, and brought Kyivmiskbud to trial as a third party. It will be recalled that the Interdepartmental Commission for Countering Illegal Takeovers and Seizure of Businesses under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine instructed, on July 28, to check the ownership of Kyivmiskbud shares, following media reports that Kyiv had alienated the controlling block of shares.
