Ostroh students have started their own online radio Ost.radio

Ostroh Academy students have come up with yet another innovative idea. The university now has a radio channel, which you can listen to online regardless of your location (you only need Internet access). This is actually the second radio of this kind, following Kyiv-Mohyla Academy’s Molode Radio.

Ost.radio is a students’ initiative aiming to unite everybody familiar with the special spirit of Ostroh Academy, the intellectual lifestyle and emotional affection towards what is both patriotic and youthful. The organizers of the project consider that Ost.radio is a continuation of the Ostroh students’ initiatives aimed at supporting creative Ukrainian student endeavors, and is truly “explosive phenomenon.”

In a sense all intellectual youth products are explosive phenomena for the contemporary Ukrainian cultural space. Especially if they are Ukrainian-language and promote intellectual debate and a quality music culture, as Ost.radio does. Up to now, there was no Ukrainian-language category of Internet student radio, but acting as trailblazers and innovators are not new for the Ostroh Academy students. With the help of Ost.radio the university not only unites the students and supports communication with alumni, but also improves access to the university’s achievements through the world wide web for everybody interested. Students need active communication not just within their own universities but also at a cross-university level. Actually, this means of communication completely alters the exchange of information. In the long run, the Ost.radio project organizers plan to transform it into an information center for students, accumulating information from different fields and genres. The project’s success will hopefully become a wonderful example and useful experience for others, and will gradually promote more student initiatives. Indeed, Ukrainian youth has yet to improve in terms of mobilization and activity levels.

At the same time, the Ostroh students realize very creative ideas on “Ost.radio.” Their author’s programs include: “NestandART” – for those who seek brilliance in everything, uniqueness in everybody and keep a marvelous range of ideas in their closets; “Analytical Humming-Top” – for those distressed by their own intelligence; “Favorites” – for geniuses connected to the Ostroh Academy and guests; “No Ideal World” – interesting conversations on unscheduled topics with the people who visit Ostroh Academy and those who are its essence – the students and the professors.

Ukrainian Winners of Turkish Language Competition

Ukrainians received prizes at the grand ceremony of the Ukrainian Finals of VIII International Turkish Language Competition. Apparently, they were the best experts in the Turkish language, the most lyrical reciters of Turkish poetry, the most limber dancers of Turkish dances, and the most talented authors of articles about Turkey. Now young Ukrainians will compete with contestants from 120 countries in the final stage of the competition in Turkey. Ukrainian public figures and elite representatives who contributed to Turkish language learning promotion and friendly relationships between Ukrainian and Turkish nations were also singled out. Among the award winners are Ivan Drach, Yuri Kochubei, Volodymyr Yavorivsky, and also the The Day editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna. Turkish is the native language of around 80 million people around the world. The popularity of this language has increased in Ukraine over the past few years. The competition organizers demonstrated both a good knowledge of Ukrainian and a love of Turkish culture. Berat Yildiz, the Turkish Embassy in Ukraine cultural and information attache, expressed his admiration to The Day about Ukrainian Turkish-language experts, “the tradition to learn Turkish in Ukraine is very old. The relationships between our nations are very close. For example, the best known Turkologist in the world is of Ukrainian origin. It is Omelian Pritsak. That is why Turkology is very strong here. If you ask me about turkology in the world, I will answer that Ukraine holds the first place. Besides, we should not forget that many Turkic tribes lived on the territory of Ukraine, such as Polovtsians.” Not only the Turkish language experts celebrated the victory.
