The second Youth Art Salon MARTS started in Kyiv. Its organizers assert that September is the best time for such an event, because this is when — after the summer break — art connoisseurs turn to something new, when young artists show works which are the results of interesting travels and plein-air painting, tireless explorations, and dashing ideas.
MARTS has confirmed its status as a national-scale exhibit and a review of paintings executed by young Ukrainian artists. On display are works of the graduates of Ukraine’s leading academies of art, who represent the classical school of Ukrainian painting. Over 100 works by 20 artists are on display.
This time the exhibit is called “Astra Dome” and owes its title to its unique venue, the Music Theater’s exhibit hall under a transparent dome in Podil. Astra, a star, is a source of light in the universe, the center of energies and forces; it draws our attention, makes us contemplate and distracts us from ordinary things. “Astra Dome” is a projection of a starry sky on the walls of the art exposition, MARTS 2010-2011.
