Donetsk – Last weekend Donetsk hosted the 22-nd International Pole Vault Stars Competition.

Serhii Bubka, one of Ukraine’s most famous sportsmen, was the person who initiated this prestigious competition. He also set the indoor world record of 6.15 meters in 1993, which has not been broken yet. This year the competition gathered athletes from Ukraine, Russia, France, Poland, Sweden, the United States and other countries. The organizers kept the prize fund secret. But

Yelena Isinbaieva, the star of the competition, told to the press that she had an additional incentive to win in the Donetsk palace of sports Druzhba. She says that she bet her coach Vitalii Petrov she would manage to jump 5.10 meters: if she jumps that high, he will pierce his ear and wear an earring. The coach’s ear remained intact: Isinbaieva won but with a more modest result of 4.75 meters. It is worth mentioning that the celebrity jumper returned to active sports life only few weeks ago. She devoted almost a year to her social life, which she sacrificed for constant trainings and restrictions. Among the men the French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie won by jumping over 5.93 meters. The best Ukrainian participant was Maksym Mazuryk from Donetsk, who won the silver with 5.88 meters.
