When a sizzling August comes around, some head off to sun spots, while others — photo artists and Den/The Day enthusiasts — prefer to take a photo camera in hand. This time, too, there is a noticeable rush for the traditional Den/The Day photo contest. The number of participants grows with every passing year: for example, 105 authors took part in the contest in 2004. We have already received a total 750 pictures and, since the project was launched, more than 2,000 photos from 596 professionals and amateurs. We hope that this year’s international contest, the seventh of its kind, will draw capacity audiences.

It is an open secret that the Den/The Day photo contest is one of the most prestigious in Ukraine. Our readers and admirers know that the newspaper highly values quality photography and those who make it — this is why we have established the largest prize fund in this country. We remind those who have not yet joined in that the contest embraces the following themes: events, personality, life as it is, and the Ukrainian world. One does not need to be a professional photographer to take part in the contest: all one has to do is love this art. The photos should fit the required size of 30x40 cm. Please note on the back of the photo the author’s full name, address, telephone number, and description of what is depicted. The mailing deadline is August 25. The photo exhibition will be opened in late September and followed by the award ceremony timed to the ninth anniversary of our newspaper’s birth. So take out your photo gadgets as soon as possible, or else it may be too late.

It also gives me pleasure to note that the contest has been attracting more and more women photographers. Here you see the debut of Tetiana Klokun.
