German restorers have launched the second masterclass on restoration of historical entry gates in Lviv. They have organized this training within the framework of the Ukrainian-German project “Municipal Development and Restoration of the Old Part of Lviv,” Ukrinform reported.
The practical studies are held in Rynok Square, state-protected center of the city. Along with practical methods, Germans will share their theoretical knowledge. They will conduct such courses as Introduction to the Science of Architectural Styles and Service Cost Calculation in Wood Item Restoration. GTZ expert Iris Gleichmann, the German supervisor of the project, said this will equip Lvivites to restore the rest of historical gates in the city’s old block. Starting from early 2010, the project organizers expect a high demand for restoration of historical and valuable gates. The German partners held the first masterclass for professional carpenters in September 2008.
