Germany To Aid Mykolayiv Oblast

12 December, 2000 - 00:00

The German Government has donated 50,000 marks worth of medicine to a Pervomaisk hospital in Mykolayiv oblast. The medicines will be used to treat the victims of the ecological catastrophe that occurred this summer. The medicines will be officially handed over during a meeting of German Ambassador to Ukraine Dietmar StЯdemann with Ukrainian Emergency Minister Vasyl Durdynets. The German government, Interfax-Ukraine quotes the German Embassy, last summer offered to help clarify the cause of the poisoning and eliminate its consequences. In October German expert Guido Gingst visited Mykolayiv oblast, and his detailed report will be shortly presented to the Ukrainian government. The territory of five villages in Pervomaisk district was proclaimed a zone of ecological disaster due to outbursts of toxicodermia which started July 4 affecting 378 persons, including 208 children.
