The Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Jan Tombinski, together with French Ambassador Alain Remy and Croatian Ambassador Tomislav Vidosevic opened a photo exhibition entitled “Homo Urbanus Europeanus” – Man in Urban Space of Europe. The exhibition features photos from 12 European capitals captured by the well-known French photographer, Jean-Marc Caracci. According to the photo master, he reveals the theme of urban life of people, trying to show the unity of European countries. This project is a result of three years of travels all over Europe. It consists of 31 series that present 31 European capitals. Ukrainian audience will see people that live in Athens, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, London, Paris, Rome, Tallinn, Warsaw, Vilnius, and Zagreb. All 12 photographs are made in the same style, with little social and cultural emphasis and focus on the common experience of living in Europe.
“An image of an individual in a city is the best way for me to show an urban man – a man in his urban universe,” stressed Jean-Marc Caracci. He views himself as a private detective who studies humanity, when he is taking his photos.
The project Homo Urbanus Europeanus is an artistic key to unification of European countries, regardless of whether they have already joined the EU or are still on their way there. The exhibition will be open to visitors till May 27 at the Khanenko Art Museum.
European Cultural Week is a joint initiative of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, and European embassies and cultural institutions in the country. The event involves cultural initiatives, including film screenings, concerts, and exhibitions. The Week will be wrapped up by extensive Europe Day celebrations in downtown Kyiv.
