A restaurateur from Italy, who has been residing for two years in Ukraine, has treated Rivne military students to a dinner. To encourage the boys, he cooked a patriotic dish for them – in the colors of his fatherland’s national flag.
“I am following the events that are taking place in Ukraine and I take them close to heart,” cook Andrea Piras says, “I have heard the calls to support the Ukrainian army. I want to make a contribution, but in my own way. Cooking is what I can do the best. Therefore I decided to treat to a dinner those who are joining the military forces. By the way, I have served in the army for three years. When I was a soldier, I worked in the kitchen as well. For the dinner I have chosen the favorite dish of Italian soldiers – pasta in sauce. While preparing it, I used the colors of the Italian flag – red (tomatoes), green (basil), and white (macaroni).” The Italian restaurateur has fed nearly 100 students, who are graduates of the reserve-army training department of the National University of Water Management and Nature Resources Use. For this he needed 12 kilograms of pasta.
“These are young people who in the near future will become junior lieutenants and will join the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other uniformed services,” spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in Rivne, Oleksandr Hain commented, “For them it is important to feel the support. It is the first time we are holding an action initiated by a foreigner. On the whole, we are thankful to those who volunteer to help the army.”
