On August 15, India celebrated the Independence Day with a major military parade. Let us recall that India achieved separation from the UK on August 15, 1947, while Pakistan and Bangladesh subsequently seceded from the country. On the occasion of that event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort in the capital New Delhi. He particularly noted that the nation had changed over 70 years of independence and people were no longer satisfied with political declarations or plans. “It is true that our country is confronted with a number of problems but we have 1.25 billion brains which are capable of solving the problems,” said Modi. According to him, “a nation which is divided because of reasons like caste and religion cannot achieve great things. We have to rise above social evils, and only then we will be able to make a strong and successful India.”
