It is with great interest that we received a message from The Day’s editor in chief Larysa Ivshyna about the idea to plant the “Garden of the World Ukrainians.” With even more sympathy and approval we accepted the initiative of the International Institute for Education, Culture, and Contacts with Diaspora (Lviv Polytechnic National University) to support the idea and its practical implementation in the Shevchenko grove in Lviv. We are sure that when Iryna Kliuchkovska and her indefatigable team at this institute undertake something, everything will be done at the highest level! We saw it many times during our 15-year-long communication and during numerous common activities and projects.

In its turn, the national-cultural autonomy “Ukrainian Verbychenka Society” in the city of Nizhnekamsk (Tatarstan, Russia), put forward in support of this good deed an initiative to appeal to all Ukrainian diaspora centers to plant Ukrainian gardens (guelder-rose lanes, willow groves, etc.) in places of their residence.

We have an agreement and permission for planting a guelder-rose lane on the territory of Gymnasium No. 32 in 38 Syuyumbike Street. It will be planted at the beginning of May 2010.

We hope that Ukrainian lanes in Ukrainian diaspora centers will become branches that will ramify from the Lviv World Ukrainian Garden. They will unite Ukrainians of the world, help feel one’s engagement in the common cause, and warm the souls of compatriots scattered far from home with spring blossom, summer cool, and the rustle of falling autumn leaves.

May the World Ukrainian Gardens blossom everywhere!
