The popular science book called Serhii Krymsky: Life-Long Talks. Cycle of Interviews by Tetiana Chaika (Kyiv, Publiching House of Dmytro Buraho, 2012) was presented in the House of Actor. The unique collection of interviews with Serhii Krymsky (representative of the Kyiv philosophy school, outstanding intellectual, culture expert, laureate of the Shevchenko prize, contributor, expert and friend of Den of many years who, unfortunately, passed away in 2010) is the result of decrypting of more than 22 hours of dictaphone recordings of conversations which his follower and colleague Tetiana Chaika made during two years. According to the publishers, the book was created in the format of oral history, which is not common in the Ukrainian literature yet.
“The author of this book is certainly Serhii Krymsky. However, he did not write, but spoke. I only sometimes helped him and sometimes even hindered,” Tetiana CHAIKA said. “The name of the book was suggested by him. Once during an interview he said that it will be ‘our life-long talk.’ Presenting the book today I invite you to our conversation.”
The collection of interviews with the philosopher is aimed not only at making readers aware of life challenges of their contemporary, but also helping them feel the evolution of his philosophical views. That is why chapters of the book were called by Krymsky’s quotes such as “Rhythms of My Childhood,” “My Universities,” “Everyday Ethics” and others. The addendum to the book called “Continuation of the Talk” is also quite large and contains memories of Krymsky’s friends and colleagues. There readers can find Tetiana Chaika’s interview with the philosopher Myroslav Popovych called “Our Person Serhii Krymsky,” with the composer Valentyn Sylvestrov called “Serhii Krymsky’s Uncancelled Text.”
“We are really grateful to Den which gave us a unique photo of Serhii Krymsky as present. We used it for the coverage as this photo conveys the best the atmosphere Serhii Krymsky’s interlocutor was in,” the publisher of the book Dmytro BURAHO said during the presentation. “I have not read such a page turner for a long time. I have to confess that even fiction books have not lately been as breathtaking as this one.”
Along with Tetiana Chaika’s book Serhii Krymsky: Life-Long Talks… the publishing house of Dmytro Buraho presented one more book: a cycle of articles by Serhii Krymsky published in different years and called Wisemen Are Always in a Minority (Kyiv, 2012). By the way, key texts by Serhii Krymsky can be found in Den’s Library in the book Extract+200 in a separate chapter called “Golden Deposits of Wisdom.”
Reading these two books one has a possibility to feel the warm live conversation with Serhii Krymsky and understand his world-view and philosophical guidelines.
