On November 29 MP of the second and third convocation Oleksandr Yeliashkevych, leader of the socialist party Oleksandr Moroz and public activist Oleksii Podolsky held a press conference where they made resounding statements. They concerned Kuchma’s case and the Melnychenko recordings that were made public eleven years ago. We remind our readers that on November 28 during the session of the Ver-khovna Rada Oleksandr Moroz made a shocking declaration that struck Ukraine and the whole world concerning the complicity of Kuchma and other high-ranking officials in the disappearance of Heorhii Gongadze. According to Yeliashkevych, the consequences of this declaration will be felt for a long time until “the guilty of creating the system of the state terrorism is punished.” Oleksandr Moroz declared: “Back then nobody could even think that 11 years later this criminal case would not still be resolved. The regimes pass this case to each other as a baton of mutual protection, lawlessness and lies. It happens in the conditions when the fact of the matter is clear to nearly all the Ukrainians, when the facts and forced actions of the state confirm its complicity in the crimes, when the expertise of the Melnychenko recordings made their authenticity evident (though even without them the reasons to prosecute those who executed, organized and ordered the murder do not lack).”

Oleksandr Moroz also said that “the power is shifting the accents of the case again since it does not matter how Melnychenko made the recordings but the information on them. The doubtful conclusion of the Constitutional Court of October 20, 2011 concerning the ‘illegally collected’ evidences is used with one purpose: to protect Kuchma and others from prosecution, make Melnychenko keep silent and falsify another version to mask the crime. How long will the law-enforcement agencies make full of the Ukrainians?”

In his turn, Oleksandr Yeliashkevych who is the only politician who received the political asylum in the US (which is scandalous), said: “There are a lot of reasons why I took the informational pause for a long time. First of all, I realized from the very beginning that it is impossible to prosecute the former president Leonid Kuchma in Ukraine regardless of the fact that the power changes. That is why I have been taking measures outside Ukraine. I want to seriously upset Leonid Kuchma that regardless of the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine or other measures he has taken this case will be finished. There will be legal proceedings outside Ukraine; just the judicial cycle has to be finalized in Ukraine in order to make it clear to the whole world whether Ukraine is able to resolve the problems concerning the Ukrainian president committing a crime. Kuchma thinks that the recordings are the only evidence; however, there are other evidences that will be made public during the processes. The decision of the Constitutional Court concerns not only Kuchma’s case but millions of our people. They have been deprived of the possibility to protect themselves.”

Yeliashkevych also emphasized that “Kuchma and his family have made a mistake: the money they are wasting to whitewash themselves and enter into the history as the people who supposedly faced the provocations, the recordings in the presidential cabinet; all of these actions and talks will not bring Kuchma any result since all the surprises prepared for him are ahead… I assure you that in the US and not only there they know about Kuchma’s corruption and the nature of the capitals that today formally belong to Viktor Pinchuk.”

Oleksii Podolsky present at the press conference (featuring in Kuchma’s case and Pukach’s case as a sufferer) blew open the trial of Pukach. “I would like to draw your attention to the fact that over a half of a year of Oleksii Pukach’s process not a single state secret has been revealed. The question arises: why was this process restricted?”
