On September 15-17 the Donetsk National Academic Ukrainian Music Drama Theater’s company of actors will perform at the stage of Russian Drama theater (creative director Marko Brovun). This year the theater opened its 84th season. There are around 30 plays in the team’s repertoire, so they have what to choose from. During their Kyiv tour they will perform three resonance plays: a melodrama, a musical and a comedy in order to familiarize the viewers with three directions the theater is working in now.

Kason’s Bride of the Morning Star play is a lyrical drama about love (translation from Spanish by Borshchevsky). The staging was done by Yevhen Kurman, and the music by Yevhen Kulakov. The le-gendary play is based on a dramatic conflict that is expressed with sophisticated stage language. Music and live sounds create unique colors. The actors, involved in the play, are Olena Khokhlatkina, Serhii Lupyl-tsev, Valentyna Poliakova, Tetiana Romaniuk, Kostiantyn Bannykov, Mykhailo Bovdui, Svetlana Boiko and others.

The musical Office Romance (Hloria) will also attract the public (Y. Kvasnytsia and A. Bahramian’s play received a grant from the Donetsk regional council for supporting creative youth). Vadym Pynsky staged the play and Yurii Kvasnytsia was an author of the idea and a composer. Hloria will take the viewers to the world of journalism and glamor. Viktoria Kryvoshchokova plays the role of a chief editor and Volodymyr Kvasnytsia — a young photographer. The characters are different but love, as it is known, knows no boundaries. How the romance will develop between the boss and employee — you will learn at the play. The actors will demonstrate not only their dramatic talents, but also vocal and choreographic skills (the choirmaster is Tetiana Pashchuk, the choreographer is Vasyl Masliy).

Only adults will be able to buy the tickets for MacCarten and Sinclair’s Ladies night comedy. The play is about an extravagant solution to unemployment, where sloggers re-train to become… the strippers. Oleksandr Arkadin-Shkolnyk translated the play from English and also did the staging and music. According to the director, he had this idea for over decade but when the play was ready, the economic crisis broke out. The story that took place in a small industrial English town rang very true to Ukrainians. The social problem was portrayed with sophisticated humor and “spiced up” with eroticism. The public will see formerly unemployed but handsome hunks for any taste: virgin (Viktor Yershov), clodhopper (Volodymyr Shvets), darling base player (Andrii Boryslavsky), truth teller (Viktor Zhdanov), energizer (Vitalii Yusupov), ringleader (Andrii Romaniy)… By the way, for the sake of the play and to express the images accurately on the stage the actors worked out at a gym and sweated blood in dancing classes. The result is evident...
