April 23, 2018. Washington. During his official state visit to Washington, President Emmanuel Macron of France said that “this visit is very important in our current context, with so many uncertainties, troubles, and at times threats.” It is expected that the main subjects of Trump-Macron negotiations will be differences in such matters as trade and the nuclear agreement with Iran, Reuters reports. As is known, the White House occupier favors the abrogation of the nuclear agreement with Iran, which he calls “the worst” in the history of the country. On the contrary, the French leader thinks it should remain intact. On the first day of the visit, both couples planted the tree Macron brought as a present. The oak sapling comes from the Belleau Woods, the site of a World War One battle where 9,000 Americans died. Macron is expected to deliver a speech in the US Congress on April 25. Incidentally, Donald Trump is receiving the first foreign leader who came on an official state visit. France 24 notes that he is the first US president in almost 100 years who did not receive a foreign leader on a state visit in the first year in office.
