June 9-11 will see debates, public lectures, art expositions, performances, film shows, theater productions, concerts, and other events. Organizers say the goal of this is to bring the outstanding artist back into the mental space of Kyiv and reopen him to Ukrainians. As is known, Kazimir Malevich, whose innovative ideas changed the world art, was born in Kyiv. He painted and taught here for a long time and thus formed himself as an artist.
Among the planned events are a roundtable on Malevich’s oeuvre; an excursion guided by Dmitry Gorbachev; a special exposition at Mystetsky Arsenal; a roundtable participated by academics and high-ranking officials at the Kyiv Mohyla Business School; film shows; a discussion of Dziga Vertov’s films The Eleventh Year and In Spring at the Zhovten movie theater; a tour of Kyiv places linked to avant-gardists conducted by the poet and Den contributor Oleh Kotsarev; a children’s quest “Malevich in Kyiv” on Kontraktova Square; a presentation of “Malevich Fonts” at Fedoriv Hub; an art workshop “Malevich and I” with the artist Maria Shevchenko; an immersion lecture “Malevich at the Academy” by Dmytro Antoniuk at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture; etc. A detailed schedule is available on the festival’s Facebook page.
Admission to all the events is free, except for film shows and excursions, in which case a token payment is to be made.
