The event, organized jointly by M17 Contemporary Art Center and web portal ArtsLooker, is dedicated to Ukraine’s Independence Day and will present the heritage of a renowned artist Ivan Marchuk. The exposition includes some 70 works pertaining to different periods in the painter’s career. In particular, the broad public will for the first time see the graphic series “New Expressions” dating back to the time when Marchuk lived and worked in New York, the painting cycle “A Glance into Infinity,” as well as his new canvases. Moreover, the visitors will be able to see Marchuk’s wonderful landscapes reflecting deep philosophical issues and eternal existential problems.
Now the artist, who turned 81, is still busy painting. He divides his career into 11 periods: “The Voice of My Soul,” “In Bloom,” “Landscapes,” “Portrait,” “Preludes in Color,” “Still Life,” “New Expressions,” “White Planet 1,” “White Planet 2,” “Dreams Are Bursting Their Banks,” and “A Glance into Infinity.” The works of each period have their distinct styles and painting techniques. By the way, instead of the conventional brushstroke Marchuk invented a way to paint with the finest trickles of color, which creates wonderful lace-like effect with incredible glowing shades.
The exhibit at the M17 Contemporary Art Center is open through September 9.
