New US Ambassador Pledges Ukraine Support

17 October, 2000 - 00:00

During the swearing in ceremony at the US Department of State, newly appointed US ambassador to Ukraine Carlos Pasqual expressed his eagerness to assume official duty. Pasqual considers Ukraine to be in a crucial moment in its lengthy struggle to create a strong independent state and be master of its fate. He mused that the ability to have and implement a grand vision can make Ukraine great, as it did the US. “The US will remain Ukraine’s staunch ally on its long road to becoming a strong, democratic, and prosperous state,” he said. Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbot and national security consultant Samuel Berger, who view Pasqual as the man Ukraine needs at this moment, congratulated the ambassador on his appointment.
