The International Amateur Boxing Association named the winners of the prestigious award for the best boxers of the year. The winners of the AIBA Annual Awards Ceremony were named in 10 categories. Oleksandr Usyk (heavyweight 91 kg) won in the category Best Elite Men Boxer of 2012, regardless of weight categories. Ukrainian National Olympic Committee reports on its website: “The charismatic and incredibly talented boxer from Simferopol impressed the whole sports world with his bright and unconditional victories at the XXX Olympic Games in London. The triumphant hopak dance performed by Usyk after defeating Italian boxer Clemente Russo in the finals of the Olympics impressed absolutely everyone.”
In 2009 Ukrainian boxer and a two-time Olympic champion Vasyl Lomachenko won in this category.
