The murder of journalist Ihor Oleksandrov, general director of the TOR radio and television station in Slovyansk, has been solved, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Volodymyr Melnykov announced on September 14 in Donetsk, addressing an all-Ukrainian meeting of precinct officers. UNIAN quotes Mr. Melnykov as telling journalists that he was not prepared to say how soon the case findings will be made public. “We have arrested and taken into custody the person who committed the crime. He has been indicted by the investigator of the case,” he noted, adding, “The rest, all that concerns the investigation and eventual trial, is within the competence of the Prosecutor General’s Office, which is investigating the case, not the Ministry of Internal Affairs.” At the same time, Interfax-Ukraine reports that Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Serhiy Vynokurov confirmed this on September 14, announcing, among other things, that the Oleksandrov murder case had been solved and the man detained on suspicion of committing this crime is already giving testimony.
