According to the recently published WTA’s ranking of professional women tennis players, Serena Williams from the US continues to top the list. Ukrinform (Ukrainian National News Agency) reports that Olena Bondarenko from Kharkiv has moved up one position and now ranks 30th. Two more Ukrainian tennis players are in world’s top 100 women singles players—Kateryna Bondarenko (56th place), and Maria Korytseva (90th place). In the doubles players ranking sisters Kateryna and Olena Bondarenko now have the 37th and 43th places, respectively, while Korytseva ranks 67th, Olha Savchuk 77th, and Tetiana Perebyinis 94th.

The readers will remember that Olena Bondarenko was born in Kryvyi Rih and now lives and trains in Kharkiv most of the time. She was born to a family of tennis players—both mother and father played tennis and passed on the love for the sport to their children. Olena’s sisters Kateryna and Valeria are professional players, too. Olena first took a racket in her hands when she was five. Since then she has managed to earn 1.5 million dollars in prizes and at one point reached the 19th position in the world ranking. She won gold playing doubles with Kateryna Bondarenko at the 2008 Australian Open.
