The open world of IT

19 August, 2010 - 00:00

Vinnytsia — Communication technologies are now available for free, for jobless and part-time employed young people, as well as disabled people and senior citizens thanks to the project The Open World of Information Technologies, which started operating in Vinnytsia, Makiivka, Simferopol, and Khmelnytsky. In Khmelnytsky, the capital of Podillia (where the project has such social partners as the International Women’s Organization Zakhyst [Protection], the Women’s Jewish Foundation Project Kescher, and the Vinnytsia municipal center of social services for families, children, and young people), educational centers will be turned into bases for various classes, training sessions, and seminars, for a total of 26 hours per month.

Out of these, 16 hours will be allotted for the courses based on the curriculum The World of Unlimited Potential, developed by Microsoft. It offers users a wide range of study courses, from the basics of using a PC to the fundamentals of operating with databases. The students who successfully complete their studies will get a personalized certificate whose authenticity can be verified by employers at the project’s web site www.idea-ukraine.org. According to Olha Shevchuk, coordinator for the educational centre IDEA in Vinnytsia, more than 28 thousand students have taken free courses and seminars in Ukraine as of today. They obtained the necessary knowledge and gained opportunities to enter today’s information-based world.
