Our society too often makes the mistake of honoring people only after they pass away. So, let’s not miss the opportunity to listen to His Beatitude Liubomyr (Huzar). As a moral authority he always has some good counsel. This time he has recommendations on how to find a way out of even the most complicated moral traps. UNIAN recently presented his new audio book The Society and the Power. This is his fourth book. The previous ones were called The Way to Oneself, The Way to the One’s Neighbor and the Way to God covering the corresponding issues. The new book is the first part of a new trilogy: Society.
“Now the word ‘power’ is a household word,” His Beatitude began. “Some praise it, others criticize. I wanted to make my modest contribution to this discussion. Power is an important element of the life of any society. It has to be used in a positive way. A person who has power can do a lot of good realizing that, probably, it’s the supreme form of service to the people. Instead, we often see it being abused. What happens then?”
In his new audio book the former cardinal remarks that the deep problems of our government stem from the deepest problems of society itself, of which the government is an integral part. He bravely replies to some burning questions such as: can the politicians be worse than the people? He says “Yes, they can. Examples abound.” If we rise against such a government would it be an alms deed since the Bible reads that any government is given by God? Again, His Beatitude concurs. Nor does he relieve the government or the society generating this government of any responsibility. The book emphasizes that power is nothing but service. Obviously, only responsibility toward the Almighty can make politicians understand this term correctly. On the other hand, it’s strange to expect them to serve God and their people if they were taught that He doesn’t exist... The abovementioned audio book The Society and the Power talks about politicians and politics, people, deputies wearing cassocks, relativity and liberalism, cosmopolitism and nationalism, the church and the state, their division and cooperation.
According to the director of the UGCC Information Department Ihor Yatsiv, at the beginning of July His Beatitude Liubomyr will start working on the second audio book from this new trilogy. The most likely themes will be the relations between society and money or the law.
