The State Library of Ukraine opened the photo exhibit “Homeless Life” on March 10. It is dedicated to cats and dogs that need a place to stay. It includes photos from the Sirius and SOS shelters, as well as photos of homeless animals made by volunteers in Kyiv.
According to the organizers, the main concept of the exhibit is to encourage people to show mercy and compassion to animals that need a warm house and a good host. This is what the shelter management hopes for.
The Sirius shelter, situated on the territory of the former fish farm in Tolukon village (Vyshhorod region), is home to many dogs and cats.
According to the managers of the shelter, the animals are glad to see each guest. They jump and greet the visitors as if they knew them for a long time. Not everyone can provide shelter for such homeless animals, but there are other ways to help. For example, you can come to a shelter, give the animals food and water, groom those that are too shaggy, or just enter the cage and play with them.
The shelters are also in constant need of hands to carry out repair work. That is why volunteers are welcome to help in re-enforcing the cages, winterizing kennels or building wooden panels for the floors of the cages. One can also help out by bringing unneeded warm clothes, cushioned furniture, buckets, bowls, pots, brooms and dust pans.
