The city of Netishyn, Khmelnytsky oblast, hosted a roundtable “450 Years of the Peresopnytsia Gospels: Religious and Cultural Context,” attended by delegates from ten Ukrainian oblasts: Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and those in the western region. This roundtable and other celebratory events are being held, under the Cabinet of Ministers’ instruction, to mark the 450th anniversary of the Peresopnytsia Gospels. Prof. Petro Karliuk, Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy), Pro-Rector for Research of the National University of Ostroh Academy, emphasized that it is significant that the presidents of Ukraine swear an oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people on the Peresopnytsia Gospels, for they were written in Ukrainian by Ukrainians and have visited all the regions of Ukraine throughout its history. He also noted that while we are marking the First Book’s anniversary, we should above all remember the activities of the writer Yevhen Shmorhun who suggested erecting a monument to the Peresopnytsia Gospels and initiated the celebration of this book’s anniversary.
