Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (United) and of the Eastern European Social Democratic Forum (EESDF), met Louis Ayala, Socialist International Secretary General and Milos Zeman, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and chairman of the Social International Committee for Peace, Democracy, and Human Rights on April 18 in Minsk. The delegations arrived in the Republic of Belarus by invitation of Nikolai Statkevich, leader of the Belarusian Narodna Hramada Social Democratic Party, EESDF secretary-general, SDPU(o) press service reports.
The two international organizations, the Socialist International and the Eastern European Social Democratic Forum, expressed common concern over the human rights and freedoms situation in the Republic of Belarus.
The Socialist International delegation showed great interest in the parliamentary and local elections in Ukraine and was duly briefed on this point by SDPU(o) leader Viktor Medvedchuk.
The Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (United) and the Socialist International expressed readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation. Mr. Medvedchuk invited Socialist International Secretary General Louis Ayala to visit Ukraine.
