Yesterday former member of the Kyiv City Council Zorian Shkiriak has been appointed the interim head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The former head of the service Serhii Bochkovsky was arrested at yesterday’s session of the Cabinet of Ministers for abuse of power and involvement in corrupt schemes in the system of the State Emergency Service.

According to an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Serhii Bochkovsky and his first deputy Vasyl Stoietsky were detained based on the request of MPs regarding the corruption schemes present in the system of the State Emergency Service.

“A pre-trial investigation revealed a criminal scheme created by the leadership of the State Emergency Service. According to the scheme, current legislation was violated during the state purchases, when petroleum, oils, and lubricants were bought from LUKOIL, Alliance, and other companies at considerably higher prices,” said a representative of the law-enforcement institution.
