The level of trade and economic relations between Ukraine and the United States of America does not meet the real potential of the two countries, Interfax-Ukraine quotes Steven Pifer, US Deputy Undersecretary of State and former ambassador to Ukraine, as saying. “This is a very acute problem, and I do not think anybody in Ukraine and the US can be satisfied with the level of economic relations between the two countries,” Mr. Pifer noted at a televised press conference devoted to US-Ukrainian relations and Ukraine’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic system. He maintained that the US annually invests a mere $700 million in the Ukrainian economy. At the same time, he pointed out, Ukraine should be more active in attracting foreign investment.
