The First Visitors of The Day ’s Photo Exhibition in Zhytomyr Wrote in the Guest Book

13 June, 2000 - 00:00

The Day ’s traditional photo exhibitions have already been
held, besides Kyiv, in Sumy, Lviv, Luhansk, and Nizhyn. On June 2 an exhibition
of the best photos sent to the international photo contest, In the Light
of Day (which our newspaper, together with the Kodak-Ukraine company,
has been holding for two years in a row), was inaugurated in Zhytomyr,
on the premises of the oblast research library. The exhibition venue is
not accidental: this library is holding fast to the reputation of one of
the oblast’s most popular cultural institutions, visited annually by about
a thousand people. The residents of and visitors to Zhytomyr will be able
to see “live” a total of 64 works by photo masters from various cities
of Ukraine. No similar exhibition initiated by the media has been held
in this oblast center for five, if not ten, years.

Among the numerous guests of the photo exhibition were
leaders of artists’ and authors’ leagues, editors and journalists of local
printed and electronic mass media, and top local officials. In particular,
the function was greeted by deputy chairman of the oblast state administration,
Ihor Rafalsky. There was no scarceness of the approving and even rapturous
assessments of the exhibited works during the informal exchange of opinions
after the ceremonial introduction. Naturally, Zhytomyr residents offered
many words of praise to their fellow countryman, Serhiy Hlabchuk, whose
photo “A Step into Business” was awarded the grand prix. Meanwhile, exclamations
of the “What a wonder!” type were lavished not only on the winning works,
for most visitors noted the high level of practically all the exhibited
pieces of photo art. Then the guest book received its first entries. For
example, an employee at the Zhytomyr State Literature Museum expressed
her impressions in an elevated spirit: “Thank you for the good humor, optimism,
for a minute of rapture and the joy of an inspired vision of the world
you gifted me!”

...According to preliminary plans, the Zhytomyr exhibition
will last for a month.
