Cherkasy – Ukrainian general schools will vie for the “most sport-friendly” title. The competition was initiated by Verkhovna Rada Deputy Chairman Mykola Tomenko. During his visit to Cherkasy region, the deputy speaker told journalists about the realization of this project: “My colleagues and I created an inter-fractional ‘A healthy and sporty Ukraine’ union in the parliament. Once we complete fund raising, we will hold the ‘Most Sporty School of Ukraine’ action on Independence Day.” According to him, the winners will secure a prize in the form of a sports ground. “They will receive fitness, soccer or basketball fields, depending on their preference. We want each region to have two winners — a city and a village school. That is why we are now holding negotiations and looking for sponsors. Soon we will announce the beginning of the action. Then the schools will be evaluated in order to promote physical fitness and sports among children,” Tomenko summed up.
