On October 3 a biennial exhibition of land, sea, and air armaments, Defendory-2000 officially opened in the Piraeus exhibition center, fourteen kilometers from Athens, with the participation of Ukrainian arms producers. A total of 34 countries and 64 military delegations are displaying armor. Two years ago 29 countries and 58 delegations participated in the exhibition.
Ukrspetseksport State Company Chairman Valery Malev told Interfax-Ukraine that Ukraine presents a formidable competitor on the post-Soviet arms market, but so far it cannot compete with NATO merchants of death. Early this year a contract with a NATO member Greece was signed for the delivery of two small Zubr landing hovercraft. According to Malev, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Feodosiya and Mykolayiv defense enterprises are displaying their wares at the exhibition. In particular, elements of high-precision arms and defense systems will be displayed. Ukraine was first to supply the market with updated radar systems working in the passive mode without the radiation that makes it possible for the enemy to detect and terminate the source.
