Specialists of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU)’s Institute of Mental Health will join forces with colleagues from the Institute of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in providing free psychological assistance to victims of the Euromaidan events, the university’s press service told The Day. Counseling sessions and group meetings will be held daily at the Center for Psychological Counseling at 17 Sventsitskoho Street in Lviv. According to deputy director of the Institute of Mental Health Rostyslav Shemechko, many participants of Kyiv confrontations received psychological trauma, called the post-traumatic stress disorder. “It is a normal reaction to an abnormal situation,” Shemechko said. “However, in order to get out of this state, one needs professional help from people who have specialized training in trauma treatment.” According to the doctor, this also applies to people who have been physically injured and those who witnessed the events at the Euromaidan.
