During his two-day visit to Poland the Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his Polish colleague Bronislaw Komorowski visited the Warsaw Stock Exchange on February 4. Afterwards the presidents took part in the final session of the 10th Polish and Ukrainian economic summit. According to the Polish president, the visit to the stock exchange was a sign of the importance given to economic cooperation between the two countries. “The economy and business unite peoples the most,” remarked the Polish president.
The Ukrainian president said that Ukraine is ready to use the successful Polish experience in the development of a strong economy, the realization of administrative-territorial reform, etc. The president remarked that Poland had shown that its development model was efficient and that Ukraine will use this experience. Speaking about today’s relations between Ukraine and Poland, Yanukovych stated: “We have reached the highest level of relations during the whole period of our common history… History unites us much more than it separates us…”
The president emphasized that for this reason he and his Polish colleague agreed on corresponding governmental policy. In Yanukovych’s opinion, the present Ukrainian-Polish relations have every reason to become one of the most powerful foundations in a new Europe. The president reminded that our countries had won the right to jointly hold the football championship Euro-2012, which is a real challenge for our officials, businesspeople and is a test of their professionalism.
“Ukraine’s strategic goal is to become a full EU member. Pragmatic actions from both the EU and Ukraine would speed up this process. We sincerely hope that during the Polish EU presidency, in the second half of this year, we’ll manage to make progress,” Yanukovych declared. He also added that Ukraine will do its homework concerning this issue. “Our principle is saying and doing,” emphasized the Ukrainian president.
