LVIV – An exposition of 27 works by Johann Georg Pinzel, an outstanding mid-18th century sculptor, representative of late baroque and rococo, founder of the Lviv school of sculptors is opened in the hall de la Chapelle (the Chapel Hall). This information was given to The Day by the head of Promotion Department of the Lviv National Art Gallery Ivanna Novakivska.
Pinzel’s works represented in Louvre were picked from four Ukrainian museums. Most of them come from the collection of the Lviv Art Gallery (15 sculptures), there are also works from the Ternopil Ethnographic Museum (7 works), the Ternopil Art Museum (2 works), and the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Transcarpathian Art (3 works). The sculptures have also been restored by experts of the Lviv Art Gallery. At the final stage, experts from the Kyiv Science and Research Restoration Center joined them.
We would like to remind the readers that Pinzel’s exhibition at the Louvre is Borys Voznytsky’s dream come true. Borys Voznytsky was the long-term (almost half a century) director of the Lviv Art Gallery and Hero of Ukraine, who discovered Pinzel’s work, saved his heritage, explored it, and wrote numerous scientific articles on the genius sculptures. Unfortunately, Voznytsky did not live to see this happening, tragically dying on May 23.
The exhibit will be displayed at the Louvre till February 25. Read more about the exhibition’s opening on page 6. In March, Pinzel’s works will be presented at the Kyiv Arsenal.
