In this way, citizens of Ternopil honored on March 20 the memory of heroes who died during the bloody confrontation at the Euromaidan. As they moved along the main streets of the city, the marchers carried posters that read “Ternopil remembers its heroes,” “Yes to spring, no to war,” “Glory to the Heroes of the Heavenly Sotnia,” and “Rise up, Crimea, we are with you!” Participants of the march held national symbols in their hands, chanted “We do not forget our heroes!” and sang the national anthem of Ukraine.
The marching column was accompanied by traffic police who regulated traffic along its route. The procession started from the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and ended in Teatralna Square, where clergy held a memorial service.
“We are honoring today those who confirmed their love for Ukraine with deeds, not words. It is honorable and respectable people who remember those who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine!” priest of the Holy Trinity Prince Danylo of Halych Spiritual Center in Ternopil Anatolii Zinkevych noted. “Should we fail to build up our own army, we will be forced to maintain some other nation’s one. Today, when men, women, and children bring food and donate the last penny to build up the army, it does not mean that they are not in the army. We are all soldiers of the Ukrainian army and do not want to see our country conquered.”
