Feb. 13 1942: The forcible Nazi deportation of Ukrainians to the Third Reich begins.

1960: The Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a resolution setting up factory schools as well as industrial enterprises and workshops attached to institutions of higher learning.

Feb. 14 1914: Electoral reform is carried out in Galicia (Halychyna), allowing Ukrainians to take one-third of the seats in the national Sejm.

1993: Hungary, Poland, and Ukraine sign a declaration on cooperation among the peoples of the Carpathian region.

Feb. 15 1574: In Lviv the first printer, Ivan Fedorov, publishes The Apostle, the first book printed in the Ukrainian lands.

1919: The Ukrainian National Rada adopts a law on the use of Ukrainian in government institutions.

Feb. 16 1929: The Week of Ukrainian Literature is launched in Moscow.

1994: Ukraine and Kazakhstan’s defense ministry officials sign a communique in Almaty to expand contacts between the military of both countries.

Feb. 17 1919: The Directory adopts a declaration addressed to the Entente and US governments, requesting assistance to fight the Bolsheviks.

1943: The 3rd Conference of the OUN-Bandera leadership begins, stressing the need to fight the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, and resolutely condemning any kind of collaboration with the Nazis.

Feb. 18 1966: The publication of the first 17-volume Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopedia is completed.

1972: The Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a resolution creating the State University of Symferopil.

Feb. 19 1992: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts the tryzub (trident) as the small emblem of Ukraine, regarding it as a major element of the Great State Emblem of Ukraine.

2002: Mass production of Ukraine’s first Angel helicopter is launched. Ukraine becomes the world’s sixth country capable of producing its own helicopters.
