Oct. 10 1932: The world’s first Lithium nuclear fission is achieved at the Physics and Technology Institute of Kharkiv.

1973: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine adopts a secret resolution envisaging a series of repressive measures in regard to [officially] unregistered religious sects.

Oct. 11 1653: The Assembly of the Land resolves to place the Host of the Zaporohizan Sich under the protectorate of the Moscow tsar.

1995: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts the Action Plan submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Oct. 12 1924: The Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic is formed as part of the Ukrainian SSR.

1960: Nikita Khrushchev bangs his shoe on the lectern while addressing the UN General Assembly, saying that the USSR can do more than kill its enemies by simply throwing all the hats at them.

Oct. 13 1914: Count Bobrinsky, Governor General of Halychyna, issues a ukase banning the distribution of Ukrainian language books.

1992: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approves Leonid Kuchma’s appointment as Primer Minister of Ukraine.

1919: The Directory, government, and army swear allegiance to the Ukrainian National Republic.

2001: The world’s first monument to Symon Petliura, head of the Directory of the Ukrainian National Republic, is unveiled in Rivne.

Oct. 15 1926: The Russian Drama Theater opens in Kyiv (named for Lesia Ukrainka in 1939).

2004: Kyiv’s Aviant Plant and the Antonov Aircraft Design Bureau complete the construction of the first AN-148 model.

Oct. 16 1890: The Russian-Ukrainian Radical Party is founded in Lviv.

1917: The All-Ukraine Convention of Free Cossacks is called to order in Chyhyryn; it elects the General Council presided over by General Pavlo Skoropadsky.
